LumiPod is a tiny retreat designed by French firm Lumicene. With is circular share and compact footprint of 5.45 meter in diameter, it’s a superb weekend retreat. The retreat is fronted by generous glazing that can be slid open when the weather suits.
The tiny retreat sits on four stilts screwed down into the ground. It has steel structure and a wood exterior burnt using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique of charring wood to preserve it. However retreat can be assembled in two days.
LumiPod has floor space of 17 sq m and most of the space is taken by bedroom having double bed facing the glazing and some wardrobe space whereas blind installed inside ensure the privacy.
There is a small technical room for housing and wiring at the rear. It has electric water heather whereas there is a bathroom with shower lies nearby plus sink and toilet. No cooking facilities are there in this model. As it’s decked out in a wooden floor, walls and ceiling as standard so multiple options are there as in prefab homes.
A small Mitsubishi air-conditioning unit is installed to keep comfortable temperature. Lumicene is currently working on a fully off-grid version that is expected to order in 2020. However the standard LumiPod can be ordered now from France with worldwide shipping facility. Delivery TAT is within six month but sorry we don’t have price idea.
